Cal 21

Are the Cal 21 swing keel a decent boat? what problems do we look for? I'm looking at one locally; It look fairly good in appearance, with a good trailer...do they hold their price fo an old boat.
Thanks for any input,
Tom

Steve, I was looking for someone else; I'm still your neighbor until I go
South (maybe never)...

I'm not familiar with the 21, but the Cals are incredible boats: indestructible and fast. Check for the usual... soft spots in the deck, leaking chainplates... If it's a swing keel, check the pivot bolts, winch, etc.

It probably won't be the lightest trailerable 21 you'd find, but one of the fastest and probably the most seaworthy.

keel lifting set up

Not ever sailed a Cal 21, I understand they have a keel lifting set up that's a real pain. I see you'll be sailing on a lake, so it might be something you may want to check out.

All old sailboats keep there value, adding equipment though does not add additional value. If you paid fair market price and you do not destroy the boat, keep it clean, you will recover every dollar you paid for it a couple years from now. So your only cost for using the boat will be the cost of the add ons.
